Congress returns to task of confirming Biden’s victory after protesters storm Capitol


The Senate and House of Representatives reconvened Wednesday evening to resume the process of certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the November presidential election, after protesters broke into the Capitol building earlier in the afternoon and suspended the proceedings.

Both chambers late Wednesday voted down an objection to Biden’s win in Arizona, turning back one challenge to the president-elect. At least one more objection is planned, to the former vice president’s victory in Pennsylvania. But leaders are aiming to wrap up as quickly as possible and Biden’s victory is expected to be certified.
